The Art Menu – Take a Family Trip

The Art Menu – Take a Family Trip

Sometimes it is hard to think of fun things to do with the family. It can get boring doing the same thing over and over. There are only so many times you can watch a movie or play a board game. Something fun that the whole family can enjoy is an Art Museum. Art these days is fun to look at. We have recently discovered a modern artist by the name of Scott Tucker. His work is fun and colorful….this would be a fun road trip to take with the family some weekend…it is in Dallas, Texas and it is called The Art Menu.

The Art Menu is a Dallas, TX. based organization that has brought together a collection of artists who have all been chosen by a team of industry experts. Their roster showcases local artists and one such painter who is making a splash around the Dallas art scene is Scott Tucker. Here at Our Family Fun Night we have admired Tucker’s work for quite a while. The Art Menu’s roster only features a select number of local artists and Tucker is one of them.

The Art Menu’s advisory board recently praised Tucker’s work, commenting on their website that “Tucker’s socially inspired work consists of themes ranging from mass consumerism to whimsical folly. His sorting and placement of repetitive patterns and simple color schemes speak of sociological concerns we are haunted by in the West. Combining both found images and painted symbols, he expresses heartfelt social commentary.”

Tuckers unique collages and paintings convey an electic mix of abstract randomness with a startling reality that have been critically acclaimed for their social commentaries.

Tucker has his own blogsite  and you can see his work by visiting The Art Menu Website

Planting a Garden

Planting a Garden

Lately my family and I have spent a lot of quality time together outside. We've been planting a garden. Although planting a garden can be a lot of work, it can also be a lot of fun especially when you work together as a family. Hopefully by planting a garden we can teach our children that work can be fun as well as teach them the importance and value of hard work, as our garden begins to produce it will teach that hard work pays off.

On Pinterest I saw an idea for labeling or marking the plants in your garden by painting rocks. I wanted to try this. So, after the garden was all planted we went on a search for rocks. Even my toddler enjoyed this. After finding several rocks we painted them different colors (An activity even small children can enjoy) and then using a marker I wrote the names of the vegetables and fruits we planted and painted a little picture to go with each. After the paint dried we had fun placing them in the garden by the plants they went with.

For us gardening is a learning process. We planted our first garden last year and we learned a lot. This year we made some changes and I am sure next year we will probably make more changes. I think that sometimes the best way to learn something is to just jump in and try it. This year I plan on keeping a gardening journal that way I can record what things worked well and what things didn't work so well. If I write it down I guarantee I'll remember it, if I don't write it down I may or may not remember.

I realize that not everyone has space for a garden, but remember gardens DO NOT have to be LARGE and you can even grow potted plants inside. Planting a garden can be fun and I am convinced that planting a garden can also bring you closer together as a family as you play together, work together, and help each other.

Modern Family’s Cameron Scott Tucker Keeps Us Smiling

Modern Family’s Cameron Scott Tucker Keeps Us Smiling

As the third season of ABC’s Modern Family draws to a close we’ve decided to say how much we enjoy the show, especially Cameron Scott Tucker, affectionately known as Cam. Cam is played by Kansas native Eric Stonestreet, and he’s by far our favorite character on the show.

His big, bubbly outgoing personality has helped him become a firm favorite in living rooms all over the country.

It’s not all bad news for fans of the show who are still coming to terms with the end of season three. Here at ourfamilyfunnight.com we are really excited as our favorite character will be returning according to ABC.

Last week the network announced that Cam will be back along with the rest of the family for a fourth season. We are looking forward to that already.
